Who doesn’t love a fresh start for fall—cooler mornings, new routines, and an edited workspace ready for the new season. These are a few of the things (new + old) that have always been with me as I work.
Handheld notebooks.
I have about 10 things I’m juggling right now, and I’m sure you are too. Each project used to get a large notebook. This gets to be a lot of bulky notebooks really fast. I’ve shrunk my stack in honor of "Field Guides” —and I’m using the classic handheld notebooks from Field Notes. Easy for taking with you and jotting down notes at meetings onsite.
The leather tote that just keeps getting better.
I’ve had this tote by WP Standard for about 7 or 8 years, and it just keeps getting better with age. The leather has softened and the patina gives it that worn-in look. And it is built so strong, I don’t think it will ever give out. I got my husband the duffle for travel, and it’s the same timeless quality and style.
Color Guides.
I love selecting color palettes—whether it be for a brand I’m creating, an art piece, or a room. But with the entire range of the rainbow at our fingertips, the overwhelm can be paralyzing. I love my binder of Pantone colors, but these 3 color tools inspire me to narrow down the choices.
Clean edges.
Whether I’m trimming out a class project for one of my kids, or preparing a mock-up to send to a client—my Exacto with No. 11 Blade and self-healing cutting mat are my go-to’s. You can’t go wrong with having this duo on your desk.
Mixed media.
All of my art pieces are layers upon layers of different colors and materials. The more the better—whatever it takes to make it feel right. I always use Posca pens in softer, desaturated tones. I love any kind of color stick too—pastels and oils are some of my favorites.
A chair that doesn’t feel too office-y.
I’m not really a fan of the black mesh office chair, as I’m sure you aren’t either. Even the ones by really great designers just don’t do it for me. This Eames Group chair solves that problem—comfortable, iconic design, and you can order it in a variety of leather and upholstery options.
